"Open URL" Passing a Search String to Illume in V6

February 13, 2020

Auto-Graphics has provided us with updated Open URL structure to pass search strings directly into Illume (SHAREit V6)!

We've now updated our "Open URL" and Search Widget guides with the new information and coordinated with EBSCO to update their custom Illume OpenURL templates. OpenURL search strings allow your patrons to search for items not directly available in your library and request with Patron-initiated interlibrary loans.

  • Library Catalogue (eg. Bibliocommons) - Activate Illume search strings in your library catalogue, including Bibliocommons, to help your patrons interlibrary loan items you do not own. Check-out our updated PDF guide for more information.
  • EBSCO EDS/Databases/FTF - Embed an Illume ISSN and/or ISBN search string directly in your EBSCO search results or resources to assist your patrons with interlibrary requesting. Check-out our PDF guide for more information. And please let us know if you're interested in OpenURL search set-up for other vendors (eg. ProQuest) also.
  • Search Widget - Libraries can also add a direct Illume search widget/box to their web pages (eg. LibGuides, Moodle and more) using the guide & HTML code here (including quick video): https://illumebc.ca/guides/search-widget

Please let us know if you encounter any issues implementing Illume OpenURL searches using the new SHAREit V6 structure. And contact us if you have any questions/feedback or would like some assistance! ~Illume Support
