March 10th, 2026: Many libraries are reporting repeated slowdowns or complete Illume outages as they are unable to connect to the SFU SHAREit servers. Please try again later as the SHAREit servers are up and working but interimittently inaccessible due to the SFU network outages. |
Our host site Simon Fraser University has been experiencing intermittent network outages the past couple weeks due to Denial of Service attacks. The periodic wide-spread DDOS attacks have resulted in network slowness and interruptions for all SFU servers and services including Illume (SHAREit) [4], ArcaBC [5], SFU.ca [6] and our SFU/BC ELN email.
SFU IT is working on mitigating the issues and restoring services as soon as possible. When outages occur we recommend taking a short break from trying to access Illume and instead try again in 5-10 minutes in order to reduce the immediate load on SFU servers. Usually the outages are minor, lasting less than 5 minutes, and are often in late afternoon or early evening.
If the outage lasts longer than 15-30 minutes, please feel free to call the emergency mobile (1-236-880-1287) to report the issues especially if the Illume Support centre is closed.
