Illume (SHAREit) Temporary Service Pause

It is recommended that Illume libraries currently pause all Illume (SHAREit) interlibrary loan services for the remainder of this week until Monday March 16th, in order to allow BC ELN and SFU IT to coordinate further troubleshooting of the network outages.

  • Access: In order to reduce network traffic and server load, please do not try to access or login to your Illume (SHAREit) site unless absolutely necessary. Site access will continue to be intermittent or unavailable at this time and even when restored many features may still be broken. 
     
  • Patron Requesting: If possible, we recommend libraries with Patron-initiated requesting activated temporarily de-activate the "Request this Item" button for patrons and/or remove links to Illume (SHAREit) from their ILL webpages.

    If they're able to login, Admins can de-activate the "Guests" option under their Staff Dashboard > ILL Admin > Participant Record > "Show Request This Button" option and please check-out our Holiday List Temporary closure video guide here for further information!
     
  • ISO Libraries: Please pause sending any ISO status updates from Relais at this time as it's likely they will be lost-in-transit. Illume Support can assist ISO libraries with lost status updates after services are restored.
     
  • Illume Support: Illume Support <support@illumebc.ca> is unable to currently access email, except when re-routed through Gmail, due to the SFU network outages. Please pause sending outage reports, traceroutes or contacting Illume Support for assistance this week, as we're concerned that messages are being lost-in-transit. 

Updates will be posted to the News & Updates pages of the IllumeBC website instead as they become available. Due to the volume of messages we are receiving, Illume Support will not be able to respond to individual messages while we take the time needed to work with SFU IT on solutions. Our host site Simon Fraser University has been experiencing intermittent network outages the past couple weeks due to Denial of Service attacks. The periodic wide-spread DDOS attacks have resulted in network slowness and interruptions for all SFU servers and services including Illume (SHAREit)ArcaBCSFU.ca and our SFU/BC ELN email

SFU IT is working on mitigating the issues and restoring services as soon as possible. When outages occur we recommend taking a short break from trying to access Illume and instead try again in 5-10 minutes in order to reduce the immediate load on SFU servers. Usually the outages are minor, lasting less than 5 minutes, and are often in late afternoon or early evening.

If the outage lasts longer than 15-30 minutes, please feel free to call the emergency mobile (1-236-880-1287) to leave a message reporting the issue especially if the Illume Support centre is closed.

We apologize for the inconvenience and will provide further information when it becomes available. And SFU IT exploring all options to restore network stability soon!
