Illume Best Practices for SHAREit Academic Libraries (Online): June 30th (1-2:30 pm PDT)

The Illume Administrative Support Centre is offering a training & information session for post-secondary libraries interested in learning more about the Best Practices for SHAREit Academic Libraries documentation.

Background: The Illume Best Practices documentation, which includes links to related FAQs & Guides, is the next step in a larger process that began several years ago. At the 2019 All Partner Meeting, libraries agreed to eliminate ILL transaction fees for non-returnable items between BC ELN partner libraries on the understanding that certain conditions were met, one of which was to develop formalized expectations for the Illume service. More information: This session is for Administrators or Staff at SHAREit only libraries interesting in learning how to apply the Best Practices, as well as configuring their Illume (SHAREit) settings. Additionally, as time permits, we will discuss Request Manager workflow, SHAREit optimization features, and Union Database records as they apply to improving the equity, efficiency and effectiveness of the Illume system for academic libraries.

By the end of the session, participants will:

• Have an understanding of the current Best Practices for SHAREit Academic Libraries and how they support the BC ELN Illume Benefits and Responsibilities.

• Be able to update their Participant Record settings to apply the Best Practices including the Preferred Lender Lists to optimize load leveling for academic Non-returnable (Copy) requests.

• Update their Participant Record settings to optimizie their Settings (eg. Days to Supply) with the Best Practices recommendations as appropriate to their library's workflow.

• Have an understanding of the recommended workflow within their Request Manager including Borrower Request Creation to optimize their load-leveling using the ERTI Smart-build.

• Gain an overview of current available features in SHAREit, such as Live Shelf Checks and system Lender Policies, that can streamline Lender workflow if time permits.

• Outline how Patron-initiated requesting can save Staff data entry time and speed-up request approvals.

• Make use of the ILL Review feature to quickly update patron-initiated or staff-created borrower requests with new "better" records or refreshed automatic Lender List builds.

• Understand the impact of out-dated records on the efficiency of the Illume system, as well as the importance of frequent uploads to the shared Union Databases.
